"The hijab is a crucial part of who I am."

For me, the essential meaning of the hijab is a powerful symbol of modesty, faith, and culture for Muslim women. It reminds me to practice my faith courageously and refine my character daily. Removing it would compromise my authenticity to please those who won’t accept me.

“Hijabi is a reminder to do things for yourself that make you feel beautiful”.

As a hijabi, I don’t get the opportunity to dress up like other girls and sometimes it can leave me resenting the hijab and feeling left out. I used to straighten and curl my hair all the time. After wearing hijab, I was guilty of continually leaving it in buns and pretty much forgetting about it.

Now, I make an effort to fix my hair more often (even if it is just a braid!). It doesn’t matter if it is only my family and I who will see it that day, because it makes me feel good about myself!

Just as all human beings are different, all women who wear hijabs are also different.

Just because a woman is wearing a hijab, it does not reflect her religious or political views. There may be some who follow the Shariah (Islamic law) strictly, but most of the time, the women you encounter wearing Hijab are living their everyday lives just like any other woman.

Some girls think they can’t possibly work out in a hijab! This should not be the case!

“All in all, while the hijab is worn for modesty, it is vital to remember that it covers a body that still deserves care.”

Another thing that tends to happen when we start wearing hijab is that since we are completely covered, we don’t pay as much attention to our body image and can let ourselves go.

I made an effort to keep up with my regular workouts even after wearing hijab because it made me feel good about the way I looked and helped with my self-confidence!
