"I'm very lucky to feel connections to so many places."

I am ethnically Chinese, my mum’s family is in London and my dad’s side family is all around the world, from Australia to North America. It is crazy how many different types of people are spread in different places.

Since moving to London, I’ve understood a lot more about my mum’s stories of growing up in an immigrant family. However, since I grew up in Singapore, I straddle the unique position of also relating to international students.

I loved comparing and contrasting how people from the same society behave, for example, predominant mindsets in Singapore and the differences in cultural values in Asia versus the West.

“Which cultural values do I want to take or leave, is the question.”

I have gained a lot of independence in London, much more if I had stayed in Singapore. I lived like a sitcom character with my friends and did adult things that I would not done if I wasn’t away. This makes me feel unique and a lot more grown up.

I am hopeful that law fits all the elements of being what I love, what I’m good at, what the world needs, and what I can make a living from.

“I also learned how fun it is to try something new and gain experience in something completely different from what you eventually end up doing.”

At one moment in time, I worked in a Bakery-Café and as a Pre-School dance teacher. I think working in the service industry is something everyone should experience at some point in their life because it teaches you to connect with absolutely anyone and everyone.
